ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITOR REPLACEMENTS

I have custom made replacement electrolytic filter capacitors.  These are 105-degree units in a cardboard case that are chassis mounted.  Shiny red or blue cardboard case, 7/8" typical diameter, 3 to 3-1/4" long with color coded leads and mounting strap.
These are the usual values I stock but others are available in aluminum or cardboard on request.

METAL CAN CAPACITORS

Many have asked for more detail on how I do the can capacitors, Zenith in particular.  The start is a NOS capacitor large enough to contain the required components.  In the case of the Zenith the can is chosen for height.  The capacitor is sawed off above the ridge at the bottom.  The connections to the various sections are clipped and the large part is placed in an oven at 250 degrees.  The bottom piece is denuded of its terminals and a 1/4" hole is put in the middle.

Assemble the multiple caps in a configuration that wll fit inside the can and tie all the grounds and solder a black wire to the common point.  Make note of the color code and attach the colored wired to the various sections.  Wrap a layer of electrical tape around the caps so that there will be no possibility of a short to the can.

After a period of time remove the large section from the oven and a 1/4-20 screweye is screwed into the center of the wad of paper and foil.  It should pull out quite easily after a half-hour in the oven.  Careful folks!  It will be hot so use gloves or mitts for handling.

Feed the colored leads thru the hole in the base and align the top section and fasten with hot glue all the way around the circumference.  Seal the wires where they come through the hole.
A new label placed over any original markings on the can and you are finished.

Capacitors of any value are available made in this way.  Please inquire as to specific needs.
